This painted utility box is part of the
Koreatown Northgate neighborhood improvement project.
This particular box, Pattern for KONO, was done by artist Joanne Ludwig. The two ends of the box are painted red, while the two larger sides feature a image from the card deck for the game. The images on this box were chosen from the Hawaiian version which has a few more colors and detail. In the deck there are 12 suits, representing months, each with a designated flower. One card is from the February suit with a bird sitting on a cherry blossom branch and one card is from the June suit, for the artist's grandmother Leticia June, which features the peony flower.
Unfortunately, this box has signs of tagging, along with getting flyers stuck to it.
