New Mexico was admitted as the 47th state in the Union on January 6, 1912. During the ensuing 100 years, transportation has played an important rôle in the development of this vast empty landscape. This sign is a fitting reminder of transportation's importance, sitting alongside one of the busiest border crossings in the state. From the governor of New Mexico:
