This is a fine old stone mile marker on the B2236 Eastbourne Road.

Old OS maps show us that this milestone indicated "Standard Cornhill 21, Westminster Bridge 20". "Standard Cornhill" is an odd destination. It is the location of a former water pump on Cornhill in the City of London. It was mark from which many distances to and from London were measured1. However I could find no mention of it in the inscription.
