A small churchyard surrounding the stone built church. Church dates from 1878, replacing an earlier church on the site. Church and grounds are well kept. There is a large extension to the churchyard across the road with a Chapel.
One of the headstones reads-
"In Memory of
JANE
Wife of William Richardson of
Monk Bretton who died
May 11th 1843 aged 50 years.
------------------
The winter of trouble is past
The storm of afflictions are o'er
Her struggle is ended at last
And sorrow and death are no more."
Text on another headstone reads-
"WILLIAM WAINWRIGHT
Farmer of Monk Bretton
who died on the 7th day on Jany 1864,
aged 50 years.
This stone was erected as a tribute
of affectionate regard to a devoted
husband and loving father, he was
highly respected by all who knew him;
a good neighbour, and a faithfull friend.
Also FANNY,wife of the above named,
who died may 18th 1867, aged 55 years.
Also in memory of
LUCY LEES,nee KERSHAW. grand daughter
of the above who lay interred in Saint
Eanswith's Churchyard Brenzett,
Romney Marsh,Kent.
born July 5th 1852, died March 8th 1877."
