This is a busy mainline route. Locals say that there is at least one train per hour and each one appears to be miles long. There is also a section maintenance yard adjacent to the grade crossing and the track maintenance crews can be seen coming and going to their work locations. Barstow, unlike its large railroad-oriented namesake in California, is a very, very small community. There are no other activities to be had here except for the train watching. Food, beverages, and other attractions are not very far away in the surrounding towns.
