These beautiful gardens sprawled along the river were established in the early 1920’s and are unique in that they contain 300 species of almost entirely native flora. In fact the Arboretum is probably how Brisbane’s landscape would look had the early parks super-intendants not favoured the ornamental and exotic introduced plants such as jacarandas, palms and poincianas.
Featuring sweeping curved paths, a majestic avenue of Queensland kauris, two artificial lake wetlands, a small grove of forest and a river-front path that is partially board-walk this is a fantastic place for a ramble.
In addition there’s a substantial playground for old and young, barbecues and picnic area for those who want to make a day of it.
