The Douglas Soldiers' Monument is dedicated to those who lost their lives in the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, and the Spanish American War.
A 12' high zinc sculpture of a Union Army flag bearer stands on top of a 6' high square granite pedestal. The soldier is wearing a moustache, cap, cape, and a belted overcoat which comes down to his knees. He is holding a flag vertically with his left arm and hand. His right hand is bent in front of him held at waist level. The weapon he was holding is missing. The sculpture was cast at the Spaulding Foundry and dedicated in 1908.
The front of the granite base is inscribed:
IN MEMORIAL OF THE
UNKNOWN DEAD
UNION SOLDIERS
SAILORS & MARINES
OF THE WARS OF 1776
1861 TO.65 1898.
