St.Peter's parish church dates from the C11th when the chancel and nave were built. In the C14th the south aisle was rebuilt, and probably also the west tower and the west end of the church. The south Chapel dates from the late C15th, and the south porch was in existence in 1780. There have been C19th and C20th restorations, including the rebuilding of the south arcade and chancel arch. The church is built of flint rubble, septaria and puddingstone, limestone quoins, Roman tile and brick dressings. It has red plain tiled roofs with the chancel and south chapel east walls gabled and with angle buttresses.
The cut-mark is on the south face of the western buttress of the south porch 0.4m above ground level and is slightly worn, especially the top bar, with a droopy left-side-of-arrow. It was last verified in 1962 as being 9.7079m above Newlyn datum.
