This house is like no other of Wright's with its Queen Anne style, steeply-pitched roof and uncharacteristic dormers, and Greene and Greene-esque boulder foundation reportedly hauled to the site by Williams and Wright. This is the first Wright design to show an oriental influence and does have more characteristic use of Roman brick and Roman-arched entrance.
Williams knew Wright from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and was part of a circle of friends including William Winslow with whom he formed Auvergne Press and Edwin Waller who commissioned Wright to design the Midway Gardens pleasure palace.
The dormers were modified and some windows eliminated in a re-model by Wright circa 1905.
This house is a private residence, but has occasionally been included for touring as part of the Wright Plus Weekend in May.
