Louis Combe Velluet is quickly noticed by his artistic qualities, he obtains a stock exchange of the department of Deux-Sèvres and city of Niort to study to the School of Fine Arts of Paris.
His meeting with Corot was determining because it is him who recommends to specialize in the landscapes. The campaign always attracted this artist, with its trees and its streams. He takes place then quickly at the head of a school landscape painter.
He teaches in Niort where he becomes the director of the art school.

Sa rencontre avec Corot fut déterminante car c’est lui qui lui conseille de se spécialiser dans les paysages. La campagne a toujours attiré cet artiste, avec ses arbres et ses cours d’eau. Il se place alors rapidement à la tête d’une école paysagiste.
Il enseigne à Niort où il devient le directeur de l’école de dessin.
