On the pavement, outside the pub, is the Whittington Stone. This is the spot where the three times Lord Mayor of London, Dick Whittington, heard Bow bells and made his "U" turn to return to the City of London.
The pub sign, in monochrome, shows Dick Whittington sat next to a mile post on which is carved "London VI Miles". Dick is wearing the garb that is normally seen in the pantomime of the same name and he is stroking his cat. On the top frame of the sign is a figure of a cat.
