É o singular e nobre monumento ao Bombeiro Voluntário que testemunha a gratidão e a homenagem das gentes de Barcelos e do Minho aos briosos e dignos soldados da paz que, arriscando a vida, prestam altos e relevantes serviços à humanidade.

A ideia da construção de um monumento ao bombeiro em Barcelos ficou a dever-se ao ilustre barcelense e diretor dos Bombeiros Voluntários de Barcelos, Manuel Augusto Vieira. Tendo vivido nos inícios do século vinte em Buenos Aires, Argentina, ele quis implantar na sua cidade um monumento ao bombeiro idêntico ao existente em plena praça pública de S. Tiago do Chile.

O monumento é uma obra do escultor portuense Henrique Moreira foi inaugurado em 21 de Março de 1954, com um brilhante programa, que trouxe a Barcelos as mais altas autoridades do país e do distrito e cerca de mil e duzentos bombeiros."
