The Place:
Designed by Kruger, Bensen, & Ziemer, Architects, Fisher Science Hall is a large and imposing three-story concrete building. Constructed in 1977, it cost cost $4,850,000 . The architectural style is defined as Post-Modern, Brutalism which reflected in the heavy, blocky concrete surfaces of the building. Integrated sun awnings over the narrow windows break the large slab sides. Curving exterior staircases contrast with the otherwise straight lines. Source
The Person:
Fisher Science Hall is named for Clyde P. Fisher who was a member of the Cal Poly faculty from 1947 until 1975. Fisher had begun his Cal Poly career as a teacher, eventually rising to become Dean of the College of Science and Math. Two years after his death, the building was named in his honor. Source
