Before the gold rush changed California forever, the Maidu lived in the area that is now Roseville. This sculpture is of a family group, a young warrior who stands next to his wife who holds an infant nestled in a cradle board in her arms.

They are positioned on a rock. The sculpture is mounted on circular base that has Native American symbols on the four opposing sides. Beyond are engraved bricks. There is a bronze plaque on the base that reads:
