The barn is currently in use by the
L.A.R.S. staff and you can only view it if you are a student working at the Research Station or pay to take the tour. The tour is well worth the $10.00 and it helps feed the animals.
The "below ground level" portions of the Barn are made of stone to support the upper wooden level.
Here is a little history on the builder of this barn:
Mike Yankovich was a farmer, experimenting in Siberian wheat. Farming the precursor of the Muskox Farm, known today as the University of Alaska Fairbanks Large Animal Research Station, he used to enjoy bringing milk for
kaymak, the soft Montenegrin cheese of his youth, to various Yugoslavian families.
This barn and all of the other buildings and the land property were donated by the Homesteader, Mike Yankovich to UAF on Oct 12, 1963.
