"Osprey" was commissioned by the Rotarians of Nelson as a Millennium project. The bronze sculpture was done by artist Denis Kleine.

The sculpture depicts a family of ospreys and their nest, perched atop wood pilings in a small bay a couple of hundred feet offshore. I expect it's sufficiently natural looking that it has fooled more than one tourist, if only for a few seconds.

The Plaque:

"Kootenay Lake is a significant habitat for the osprey. The Nelson Rotary Club commissioned the bronze sculpture as the millennial highlight of the Rotarian Improvement Project of the Nelson Waterfront Walkway. May 2000"
