"Parque Nacional El Boquerón, or El Boqueron National Park, is located on top of the San Salvador Volcano at 5,905 feet (1800 meters) the park's main attraction is a crater 5 kilometers in diameter and 558 meters deep. In addition, there is a small crater within the crater named “Boqueroncito” (little Boquerón). El Boquerón has a cool temperate climate year round. The park is home to many plant species identified as ornamentals such as “cartuchos”, hydrangeas, begonias and wild “sultanas”. There is wildlife such as armadillos, raccoons, deer, foxes, among others.
The park features a visitors' centre and short hiking trails up the side and along the rim of the crater."

"If you want to find a tourist route that combines ecology and adrenaline, approach the Parque El Boqueron. It is located 20 minutes from the capital, on the San Salvador volcano.
If you need to take a breather from the bustle outside, you can enjoy a climate conducive to over a thousand 700 meters.
This beautiful park is situated in the crater of the volcano of San Salvador, that is within the volcanic mountain range of La Libertad department. This amazing place has 1.6 kilometers in diameter and 558 meters deep, up to the second crater bottom.
The park offers a walk through marked trails where you can appreciate the beauty of the flora cultivated in place that harmonize with the pine forests that stage breathtaking views of the crater. Among the plant species are identified as cartridges ornamentals, hydrangeas, torches, begonias and wild sultanas. Also find wildlife like armadillos, Raccoons, deer, Foxes, inter.
Company can request guides, as the Tourism Police (POLISH), for declines up to the famous "Boqueroncito", into the crater. From there you can see the "Picacho", the highest point of the volcano and arrival point for the mountain biking routes.
Also, on the road to the park are many viewpoints and restaurants with breathtaking views of San Salvador.
It is noteworthy that in El Boqueron gave a powerful volcanic eruption which destroyed towns like San Salvador, Resume, Resume and other cities in 1917, when expelled large amounts of lava that can still be seen at the site known as El Playon, on the outskirts of the city.
