Baldy Mountain is part of Philmont Scout Ranch which was property of oil baron Waite Phillips. He donated the land to the Boy Scouts of America in 1938, it is used as a High Adventure Base in which crews of Scouts and Venturers take part in backpacking and other outdoor activities. This is one of three national high adventure bases operated by the National Council of the BSA, Philmont is the most highly regarded and Baldy Mt. is the prize achievement.
