Fast jeder besitzt derweil ein Handy, daher gibt es immer weniger Telefonzellen. Einige sind dafür jedoch technisch auf dem modernsten Stand.
Verblüffte Gesichter gibt es bestimmt, wenn jemand erzählt: Ich habe gerade an einer Telefonzelle meine Reise gebucht. Aber genau das geht inzwischen - und noch vieles mehr. Anrufen war gestern: Heute kann man in der Telefonzelle Schuhe kaufen und aktuelle Nachrichten lesen. Ob das jedoch viele nutzen, ist eine andere Frage.
Auf einem großen Bildschirm, einem Touchscreen, tippt der Kunde an der Telefonzelle mit dem Finger auf das Menü und gibt an, was er machen möchte.
Für fünfzig Cent surft man fünf Minuten auf bestimmten Seiten im Internet. Auch eine SMS (15 Cent) sowie eine Video- oder Fotobotschaft (je 50 Cent) kann man von der Telefonzelle aus versenden.
