Kenneth Michael Ballard was a First Lieutenant in the Army who was killed in Najaf, Iraq in May 2004. Ballard was with the Army’s 2nd Battalion, 37th Armored Regiment, 1st Armored Division, from Friedburg, Germany. The bill to rename the post office was written by Palo Alto representative Anna Eshoo.
The plaque in the post office reads: "This building is named in honor of Lieutenant Kenneth M Ballard by an act of Congress public law 112-254 January 10, 2013"
