Bakery cafe across from the historic Tower Theater in the old downtown. Breads, pastries, cakes, pies. Also have coffee, deli type food, tables and chairs. Catering and shop rental for gatherings/parties.
Plaque on the front of the building the bakery is in gives the building's history. It reads:
Dainty Pastry
1946 - Family-run bakery started by Smilanick brothers; George, Peter,
Frank and George's wife Mary at a location on Lincoln Street. Named
"Dainty Pastry" after remark by Mary that everything at the bakery was
dainty, except the bakers.
1948 - Smilanick's bought this building and moved business here.
Popular with train crews who would enter through back door and load up on
goods before making run to Sparks or Dunsmuir.
1988 - Sold to George and Mary's Daughters, Joanne Gustafson, Sharon
Kelly and Nancy Gardner.
Special recognition to sisters Joanne, Sharon and Nancy for
alterations and improvements to front entrance completed in 2004.
