The waterfall is fairly unique in the UK, as being the only waterfall that is accessed through a public house. The falls are in Hardraw Scour that is owned by the landlord of the George and Dragon pub. Access is through the public bar for a fee of £2 per person. Reputed to be the tallest unbroken waterfall in England.

The waterfall was used as a location for the bathing scene in the film Robin Hood Prince of Thieves.
