Lathop proudly calls itself a city, but with less than 20,000 inhabitants, it still is not much more than a small town.
The sign depicts an irigation canal going off at a river bend of the San Joaquin River, source of all the agricultur in the area.
The tree is a symbol for the towns almond orchards, Lathrop's main industry.
