This is a well preserved cut-mark, without the top horizontal cut, beneath a rivet on the south-west end of this bridge parapet. The bridge crosses the Roman River and carries the London Road through Copford to the west of Colchester.

The rivet is placed on the flattened off top, centrally on the pillar of the bridge, with the cut-mark on the slope facing the road. It is not to be found in the O.S. database but may be the old type as shown in the category write-up in which case it's a long way from Dartmoor!.

There is a spot height indicated on the OS map of the area indicating 26m above datum whilst the river flows between two 25m contours.
