Mr Dalby was a farmer who dies leaving Mrs Dalby and her young son to run the farm. James calls on Mrs Dalby and enquires whether she will be selling the farm. She tells him that she intends to run the farm with her son and a full time farm hand. James admires her spirit.
A short while later James is called to Mrs Dalby’s farm to examine her cattle. James diagnoses husk, which must be treated with injections and a good diet, which will be expensive for Mrs Dalby. There is not a good expectancy for the cattle, and many die. When Mrs Dalby re stocks the farm, her new cattle develop illness. James is determined to have a better outcome this time round.
