Named for CSA General Earl Van Dorn, this U.S. Army Post served as a training camp from 1942-1945. The 99th ("Checkerboard") and the 63rd ("Blood and Fire") divisions trained here and fought in Europe, suffering over 10,000 casualties in such actions as the Battle of the Bulge, Remagen Bridge, the Colmar Pocket, and the Siegfried Line.
