James is getting advice from all quarters to get on with proposing to Helen. It is pointed out to him that Richard Edmunson is also in the running and that he needs to get a move on. James takes Helen to Bolton Castle and proposes.
James thinks that Helen’s father doesn’t think much of him, which is compounded when Tristan uses all of Mrs Hall’s bath salts on a bath for James. James goes to see Mr Alderson but gets interrupted by having to attend to one of his cattle. Fortunately that puts Mr Alderson in a good frame of mind.
