Though once a furniture store that also manufactured and sold coffins, this building is now home to purveyors of fine East Indian comestibles. It was built in 1904 of solid looking brick with some tasteful decorative brick work, including a double dentiled cornice.
From a Walking Tour of
Nelson’s Heritage Buildings, number 15.
This Queen Anne commercial building was constructed with locally fired brick. Historical accounts suggest that this building was originally a furniture store where the owners also ran an undertaking business. As with many furniture stores of the day, coffins were
constructed on the premises. The right side of this building, once occupied by Eli Sutcliff’s barbershop, later became a cigar emporium.
