Inside the station, however, are some state of the art fire fighting vehicles. Among them is this Smeal Aerial or Ladder Truck of relatively recent vintage. It is built on a Spartan chassis. Built by Superior Emergency Vehicles of Red Deer, Alberta, it is one of only 30 Smeal Aerials delivered. The queen of the show, it occupies a bay of its own in the fire hall.
We arrived at Nelson Fire Hall No. 1 to view the museum, which is attached to the south side of the fire hall. The fireman on duty was washing the ladder truck at the time and kindly allowed us to not only browse the museum at our leisure, but also to photograph the new equipment, as well.
