Of all the bike tenders I've come across, this one is definitely the most elaborate to date. It contains the word K-A-Y and was done by artist Gina Rossi. The K-A-Y represents 'K' Street which this tender is

Placemaking efforts continue on The Kay with the installment of two new bike racks that spell out K-A-Y. Designed by local artist, Gina Rossi, the custom bike racks have been placed at high traffic intersections at 12th & K streets near the Broiler Steakhouse replacing the existing U-bike rack, and at 10th and K streets (this waymark) in front of KBAR.
“Over the past several years, The Kay district has benefited from an influx of creativity fueled by our local entrepreneurs,” said Downtown Sacramento Partnership (DSP) Executive Director, Michael Ault. “The bike racks are an expression of their passion and vision to instill pride in the neighborhood.”
Rossi has several installations and bike racks throughout the downtown grid. Her signature technique of fusing old and new can be seen in her “dragon” bike rack and the “comedy & tragedy” bike rack in the R Street Corridor.
“The Kay bike racks will create public functional art that compliments the revitalization of Downtown and momentum in The Kay district,” said artist Gina Rossi. “I have included original ice skate blades in it for ice skating on The Kay, horse shoes from the horses on K & Old Sac, recycled bike parts from community bike businesses, and rail road spikes from our railroad…just a little fun history of found objects of our city.”
The bike racks were made possible by donations from Turton Commercial Real Estate and David S. Taylor Interests to Downtown Sacramento Foundation (DSF). The DSF is a sister organization to the Downtown Sacramento Partnership. This 501(c)3organization is dedicated to fostering civic pride through the improvement of the social and physical environment of Downtown. The DSF supports DSP programs that provide elevated services for public space management and beautification, economic development, homeless outreach and public safety.
The bike rack installation will also compliment the DSF’s Downtown Mural Project for the vacant lot at the 800 block of K Street. Mural installation is due to start in late May.
Gina Rossi has her own professional website here and seems to be heavily involved with community art projects as well as creating other bike tenders around the city. I didn't waymark the other K-A-Y bike tender at 12th and K Streets so it's up for grabs! These bike tenders were placed in 2012 so they are pretty new and look to be a welcome addition along K Street.
