A granite marker stands next to the entrance to the Giddings Police Station. It bears this inscription:

"We the people of the State of Texas acknowledge and thank Officer Gary Joe Bryant for the great sacrifice he made on Oct. 27, 1996 to keep the public safe. His efforts will stand the test of time. First Giddings Police Officer Killed in the line of duty. May God Bless."
