Commemorating the Emu Park Jetty, completed in 1924
Moves began in 1893 to have a deep-water jetty built on Fisherman’s Beach. In 1924 the first stage of the jetty was built and officially declared open by Prime Minister S. M. Bruce. Large public opposition to the jetty project existed in relation to its solid concrete built form. Despite attempted fundraisers to re-build the jetty, no further building took place and the Emu Park Jetty gradually deteriorated to a crumbling ruin.
