Vester Altan kvarteret er en bydel, der vokser op vest for den middelalderlige bykerne i Randers i perioden fra 1880 og op til midten af 1900-tallet. Kvarteret ligger på skråningerne nord for Vestergade, der er byens gamle udfaldsvej mod vest. Bydelen grænser, mod vest, op til det grønne anlæg ”Vester Altan”, der er anlagt i 1818 i et område, der før husede byens gamle galgebakke.

I 30’erne og 40’erne bliver kvarteret udbygget med en række ejendomme samt pladsen Vilhelm Thomsens Plads. I 1932, i forbindelse med opførelsen af bygningen "Vesterport" ved pladsen anlægges også trappeanlægget som forbinder den nye plads med det gamle Vester Altan.

Vester Altan district is a neighborhood that is growing up west of the medieval town center in Randers in the period from 1880 up to the mid 1900s. The district is located on the slopes north of Vestergade, the city's old western radial road. West of the district is the park "Vester Altan Anlæg" instituted in 1818 in an area that previously housed the city's Old Gallows Hill.

In the 30s and 40s the district is expanded with a number of properties and the square "Vilhelm Thomsens Plads". In 1932, in connection with the construction of the building "Vesterport" at the square, the long stairway which connects the new square with the old Vester Altan Anlæg was build.
