The family name, "Smith," can barely be made out, due to weathering. The main inscription, adorned by autumn leaves and flanked by columns, says:

William
Smith

Born
July 17, 1834,
Died
October 25, 1904.

He died as he lived, a
pure upright man.

The reverse of the monument is nearly identical to the other side, lacking the family name, and in place of the inscription, there is a sheaf of wheat.
