The property was a large stone mansion built by W. D. Flatt in 1910. Mr. Flatt was an early developer in the area, responsible for the building of Highway 2 locally and the area's first watermain. In an ironic twist, the property's designation was repealed in 1992 and the grounds developed again with several very large residences being constructed. The locals fought this but the developer won. The original wall of stone is all that is left. This is a trend which seems to be permanent along the lakeshore in Burlington.
