This view of Lake Superior is located at Pigeon River, Ontario on the Canadian/US border. It can be reached via the Boardwalk Trail behind the Canadian Visitor Center. At the viewing deck a sign with a map showing this largest of the Great Lakes. Lake Superior is bordered by Ontario, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan. It has an elevation of 600’ (183 m) above sea level, is 350 miles (563 km) long, 160 miles (259 km) wide, 1335’ (407 m) deep at its deepest spot, is the largest lake in the world by surface area with 31,700 miles (82,100 km), and has a shoreline length of 2,726 miles (4,385 km) including islands. It is a major shipping route for ore ships, sees commercial and recreational fishing, and is a popular place for sailing, kayaking, and other pleasure boating.
