While services were held in Alpine as early as 1909, early on the services were held in the Presbyterian church. In 1922 services were held in the new church and the Church began to grow. In the early 1950's money was being raised for a new church building to accommodate the needs of the congregation. Cinder blocks were sold at the rate of 30 cents each, to raise more money, and later each family in the congregation was given $5 in "talent" money. In 1956 the current St. James Church building was consecrated.
The fund raising efforts of the Building Committee had worked so well that the church building, which was valued at $56,000 was debt free. Over the years the Church has continued to grow, adding a new organ in 1993 and a new bronze and gold cross on the roof in 1999 replacing the original 1955 wooden cross.
