The Capitoline Wolf was used on both the emblem and the poster for the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome.
The Wolf of Rome - Was donated to the City of Sault Ste Marie, on behalf of Chase S. Osbourne. As it reminded him of Chippewa Legend of two young brothers who fled their wicked mother, and founded the City.
"Mrs. Stella B. Osborn commissioned the statue as a personal and suitable memorial to Chase S. Osborn and asked that it be placed in close proximity to the “The Crane of the Sault”, since both statues were representations of the founding of ancient cities. She gave the monument to the citizens of the Sault area as a reminder that they are citizens of an ancient city rich with a wonderful history and legacy." Text Source: (

"The Capitoline Wolf (Latin: Lupa Capitolina) is a bronze sculpture of a she-wolf suckling twin infants, inspired by the legend of the founding of Rome. According to the legend, when Numitor, grandfather of the twins Romulus and Remus, was overthrown by his brother Amulius, the usurper ordered the twins to be cast into the Tiber River. They were rescued by a she-wolf who cared for them until a herdsman, Faustulus, found and raised them. The Capitoline Wolf has been housed since 1471 in the Palazzo dei Conservatori on the Campidoglio (the ancient Capitoline Hill), Rome, Italy." Text Source: (visit link)
