This has been the official flag of the municipality of Burg im Leimental since 1946. It was coat of arms of the family von Wessenberg who owned the castle of Burg from the 16th to the 18th centuries (the castle can be seen on the hill in the picture background). The original meaning of the symbols is unknown.
This flag was mounted at a lamp post at the road to the French neighboring village Biederthal.
