An ancestor of this Shanly Road overpass was constructed by the Grand Trunk Railway (GTR) in 1855. This is the oldest remaining bridge on the original Toronto-Montreal GTR line from 1855 which today still carries rail traffic. Cardinal Station was located east of this bridge. When this section of the GTR was taken over by the CN, it was known as the Cornwall subdivision. Today this bridge is located at milepost 104.96 of CN's Kingston subdivision.
