Over the years the hamlet of Edison Station has seen a slow decline. This Exxon station reflects that change and decline. Today it is a second hand shop that has seen far better days.

Edison Station, also known as Bow today, started life as a stop on the Bellingham - Mt. Vernon interurban railroad. It served two communities -- Edison, about a mile west, and Bow, about a mile east -- until the early 1930s.
From a highway point of view Edison Station became a locally significant crossroads featuring a general store and gas station. As the Good Roads movement took place in the late 19th and early 20th centuries the community greatly benefited from it. According to Wikipedia:
A segment of what is now SR 11 was originally added to the state highway system in 1895 as a Blanchard – Whatcom County line road. The highway became State Road 6 in 1905 and was named Waterfront Road in 1907. The road was incorporated into the Pacific Highway in 1913 and U.S. Route 99 (US 99) in 1926. After an inland bypass was designated by the state to become US 99 in 1931, Chuckanut Drive became U.S. Route 99 Alternate.
While it is hard to date this service station, it most likely started life in the 1920s during the heyday of this route. As far as its modern life it was in use a service station up until the 1990s. This a reflection of Skagit County during the 1990s. As the City of Burlington became more of a regional center with large shopping malls and the development of the retail strip along Burlington Boulevard, places like Edison Station declined rapidly.
Today Edison Station is a place you drive quickly through while taking the scenic coastal route of the Chuckanut Drive / SR 11.
