First Presbyterian Church is located at the intersection of Lee and S. Oak Streets east of the downtown area. The church complex occupies a full block, with the sanctuary on the north side, facing the corner. Behind this are several buildings containing offices, classrooms and activity centers.
This is a one-story blond brick building. The main entrance is angled and faces the corner. Thirteen steps lead to the double metal doors, which stand under an arched transom and stone surround. A tower rises above the entrance. The sanctuary portion of this church is bow-tie shaped (see aerial photo), with four gabled sections, one in each direction. Large, arched windows face the two streets.
A cornerstone left of the entrance reads "FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH" and "1895 - 1925". The church was organized in 1895, with this current building constructed in 1925.
Two morning service are held on Sunday at 8:30am and 10:35am, with Sunday School at 9:30am. The 10:35 service is led by the sanctuary choir, with a bell choir performing monthly. Beginning June 19, 2013, a Wednesday evening service called Crossroads will be held at 6:30pm. This is a contemporary/traditional service with the aim of "connecting our faith with real life." The youth group will meet following this service. The monthly calendar shows a full list of scout troop meetings, committees, prayer meetings and other church events. The church has a monthly newsletter which can be accessed online.
