For those who don't know, Kachina Dolls (or Katsina) are a uniquely Hopi invention. Most kachinas you'll see are fakes that don't really represent anything other than the American touristy greed for things that look vaguely native American. True Kachinas are made by Hopi craftsmen who've honed their skills over several years. The masked religious icons are carved from cottonwood root, and they were used to teach children of the tribe about the spirit world.
