There were no more than half a dozen Presbyterian churches in the Oregon Territory when Reverend Philip Condit established a church about 20 miles southeast of Salem in 1856. This building was constructed from 1857-1858 and is one of the oldest remaining Presbyterian church buildings in the Pacific Northwest. Condit died shortly before construction of this building began so the work was carried on by his son Sylvanus and his brother.
This historic church building, along with it's cemetery, was first listed in the National Register in 1974 at it's original location, three miles southwest of Aumsville (44° 48.009'N , 122° 53.388'W). However, since falling into disuse in the 1960s it became a frequent target of vandalism and became impossible to maintain. This led to moving the building, in 1984, to its current location on the Mission Mill Museum property, 20 miles northwest in Salem. The church was re-listed on the National Register in 1987.
