The Portage RR bridge in southern Letchworth State Park is a dramatic and iconic example of a trestle bridge, but it will be taken down soon. A similar trestle bridge can be found here in Watkins Glen State Park, more more close-range.

The Finger Lakes Trail passes under this bridge at the abutment, so hikers can see the tressle construction in a very up-close and personal way. You can see original concrete foundations of a former tressle bridge that was washed away in some past flood. You can see the reinforced iron plate that is to always found in tressle bridges. And you can see the wildlife that uses this bridge for habitats, namely: turkey vultures.
Bridge Type: Tresle

Bridge Usage: Railroad

Moving Bridge: This bridge is static (has no moving pieces)
