Pacific Rim National Park consists of a northern (Long Beach) unit, and a southern (West Coast Trail) unit. The Long Beach unit is accessible by car and offers a variety of activities including camping and surfing. The West Coast Trail is a strenuous multi-day hike following the old lifesaving trail from the days when this area was known as the "Graveyard of the Pacific" due to the number of shipwrecks.

There is an annual Whale Festival in March, during the grey whale migration, and storm-watching is a popular winter activity.
