The church was built in 1850 and was a work of Josiah Brown. It includes Greek Revival architecture. It was added to the National Historic Register in 1983.
Josiah Brown was a civil engineer and mill engineer of Fall River, Massachusetts.
The first church to be formed in Fall River is the First Baptist church organized with 30 memebers in 1781. It was known as "The Baptist Church in Freetown, Dartmourth and Tiverton". The First Baptist Church worshipped in Union Hall until it present edifice on North Main Street was completed in 1850.
