Duchesne is the only community of any significant size on the western edge of the Uintah Basin. Virtually anyone visiting the Basin or passing through it to points farther east via US Highway 40 must pass through Duchesne. And because there are so many opportunities for recreation or development of mineral resources, Duchesne has become somewhat of a supply center for these visitors.
