Westbank Cemetery was established in 1925. The cemetery is the traditional resting place for community families and pioneers. There are currently 1,101 grave sites. Though currently active there are only 63 full sized grave sites and 15 cremation sites remaining.

The cemetery is 8.2 acres in size. At present, the facility is a dry cemetery with no vegetation.

We visited Thomas and Merle Battaglia’s grave sites. The grave marker for Merle is handcrafted wood pieces joined together in the form of a cross. The inscription is wood burned into the cross piece of the cross. The lettering was done free hand and still predominately black.

Though the cross is unfinished and showing signs of discoloration and some aread are bleached from the weather, the grave marker is still in good condition and legible.

Westbank Cemetery is the final resting place for several of our friends and we honor them by visiting their grave sites when we return to Westbank.
