We just got home from the "Concert in the Park" - Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Sousa, etc. by the Trail Maple Leaf Band, followed by ABBA Cadabra, an ABBA Tribute band from Vancouver. They really had the joint jumpin' - 1,000 people aged from 1 to 100 dancing on the grass at the park.
The festival is held every year on the week ending on Mother's Day. It's a prototypical six day long festival with a midway (provided by West Coast Amusements), food fair, pancake breakfasts, show 'n shine, myriads of entertainment, a "sidewalk cafe" in the arena, a marathon run, a parade, a Miss Trail Pageant, a car smash and a vendor's market. This year they happened to pick the right week for the weather, as the temperature went up to 90°F (32°C) at the start of the week and stayed there.
It's all capped off by a big fireworks display on Saturday night. The fireworks happen at the Gyro Park boat launch right beside the Columbia River.
